New site layout

Thu, 16/08/2007 - 18:30 -- James Oakley

Just a quick post to state the obvious – I’ve given my blog an overhaul.

Technical details to follow later, but for now please leave me a comment to let me know what you think – especially if you have any problems.

I while ago, I had to turn off anonymous comments, due to the volumes of spam. Now I’ve found a way to implement a CAPTCHA, I’m keen to see if I can have anonymous comments on again.

Bye for now – more later!

Like it - clean, clear, simple. I like archives in the sidebar though, by date and by tag. Your current layout is fine if you're searching for something specific, or for stuff in tags for what's on the front page, but less good otherwise, imo.

I do intend to do both those sidebar things you mention.

When you're working towards redesigning a blog, there comes a point where you stop posting content - to keep to a minimum the number of posts that will be migrated across to the new site. Once I'd reached that point, I just thought it was time to turn the new site on and work on the last details later.

You _should_ now see an archive by month as well as a tagging / categorisation menu on the sidebar. Let me know if not.

Right: Any more suggestions folks?

More pink swirls?

Also I prefer a narrower body of text for extended reading. But, you know, your blog, your choice.

She'll be asking for cursive fonts next !!

Yes, I know what you mean about a narrower body of text. The easy work-around is to run with the screen not maximised! But I'll have a think for other ideas too...
